Theory about adsense reporting

I have a theory that the adsense reporting statistics are - on the micro level - designed to mislead you. Let me explain...

Google does not want us to work out stuff - like their smartpricing formula amongst other things - right? Well, if the adsense stats were accurate on a day-to-day basis, then we would have a better means of working out what factors influence the eCPM. So, they throw stuff in there to confuse us.

Why do I think this? Because my eCPM seems to fluctuate so much from day to day. For example, the day before yesterday I was tracking 5 channels on a site. All getting reasonable eCPM's. Then all of a sudden, all 5 channels' eCPM figures plummet for the day.

The effect of this huge variation in eCPM's has the effect of not being able to monitor the results of tests you conduct, at least on the micro (short-term) level.

What are your thoughts on this?

My eCPM is very consistent over the past 5 months, the running average not fluctuating more than pennies. Each week's eCPM trend is consistent, even with me adding new low-CTR and low-eCPM topics.

Are you chasing keywords or metatag stuffing or anything of the like? I find that I just write, people read, interested readers click, and Google handles ALL of the headaches of hiring a part-time ad-sales person for me.

I'd rather give Google 50% more of my payouts if they would focus more on killing off the MfA sites and the junk scrapers. In fact, I'd probably pay 80% more if they made AdSense disappointing for those unwilling to commit to a long term goal rather than a quick buck.
