Im absolutely amazed at how Google works.... its a huge mystery I know, and its simply amazing. Its like trying to figure out how a camera works.... how it takes a picture and captures what it sees...... or even more amazing, how a telephone works -- how voice can travel from New York City to London in real time. What are your theories on how Google is so fast? Here's my guess -- and tell me what you think: Google has MILLIONS of websites in a database... their title tags, their text, what sites are linking to them.... everything.... When you search on Google... instead of weighing all sites out there in real time..... it instead uses data collected from maybe 1-2 days ago.. that is constantly updating every day.... So if you search NEW YORK RESTAURANTS ... It quickly searches its database and the sites that come up highest in order are the sites with the most & most influential anchor text........ keywords.... title tags.... etc. ..... which Google collects everyday It also them imposes filters such as "Keyword Stuffing", etc. ... and imposes penalties This is obviously just a theory But millions of sites ranked in order... in less than 1/2 a second?!!!?!?!?? What are your theories on exactly how Google works???
one of the main reasons google is so fast is their hardware strategy. Their cost / cpu cycle is about as low as it gets, thanks to zillions of bare board processors, and a hefty distributed db architecture. And a little 'pre-canning' of course.
If you want to know how Google works, why dont you Google it LOL! I'm sure there's 100's of theorys of how Google works. All of them a guess as no-one apart from Google really know how they work. From How Stuff Works: While Google shares general facts about its algorithm, the specifics are a company secret. This helps Google remain competitive with other search engines on the Web and reduces the chance of someone finding out how to abuse the system.
Yes Google has left all kinds of clues of what it is looking for every pattern they apply for will give you clues also of this does not appeal to you there is people out there that make it there business to interpret this so you have all kinds of ways of knowing what is up with Google Ed
They have a search index, that's why the search is so fast. You can also install such "similar" software on your PC, and you'll also be able to search your whole hard drive in like a second or so. Try Copernic Desktop Search for example...
Yes its amazing... but searching for files on the computer can take minutes..... while Google can search the whole world of websites, 100's of millions of sites, within .21 seconds.... its incredible... I thought that Google maybe even had a database of all keywords searched, and knew what to put at the top.... but then I realized that cant be... because someone could search: LKFJALJFALJFALJQ3JLAKJF and it would know what to put at the top, the 1 or 2 jibberish websites that have that in there!!!
I was thinking about it today... and came up with proof that Google's search is not in "live" or "real time" The reason is this: Sometimes I search on Google.... and pages come up with the Meta Description mentioning what I searched for..... but when I get to the page, the phrase I searched for is no longer there.... maybe deleted..... but Google still brings up the page Also, sometimes I check backlinks... and a directory page will come up saying I have a backlink on a specific page.... but my link is not on that page.... i.e. /directory_8.html ......... when I search the site I have been moved down to directory_12.html because it might move links via alphabetical order, etc.!
Find the beta version of when Google was a project for that guy who was in College. He was going to Stanford so you might be able to find something. Then from their you can just guess the new things . Google searches websites because people use the Google toolbar.... It's not that complicated. There are parts to it really. Part of it is because Google toolbar submits sites. The other parts are just looking at links on known sites to find new sites. or you can submit sites to Google (which is what people had to do wayyy back.. Back when the Big G was called the Little G and Yahoo was the Big Y...... wayyy back...) The bot takes a pictures of the site which is set back to Google. Another bot finds the words and stores them. (Not ocr.. You know how we can just copy and paste? Yeah, same aspect). The bots can then figure out when you search, which site has the most relevant words. All you need is that huge off-center building with tons of servers in it. Then buy your own city and call it Mountain View .... (No seriously.... This is what Google did) That's pretty much all I could figure out. Oh and all that money that Google makes. Goes to paying buses stocked with Computers for transportation, offices where nerds try to learn to skateboard, and where that one nervous guy is about to get laid-off so he is Googling "how to not get laid off".....
The amazing thing is not how google works but how search engine works. You are getting the difference?
v. funny! I often wonder why Google don't just start offering hosting too - then they wouldn't have to store a 'copy' of teh web, they could store... the web!
