    Theme can affect your ad placement, which in its turn can increase your CTR and thus earnings.
    So keep in mind an image of your ad placement, browse some themes and compare. If you can find one which can fit your desired ad placement pick it. pick a few more. select one of them depending on other aspects.

    Agree.. Top positions ads get much better CTR for adsense ads. And sidebar ads also get close attention while crawling.

    cyberlight is right except for the number 2, I would not put just under the content, but just above or within the content.

    One other aspect is the header. Use small headers which don't
    take up much space.

    The visible area when someone first lands on your site is the
    Prime E-estate.
