I've owned this domain for quite some time. The GooglePlex Productions has been my web design company several years. I got the domain name prior to GOOGLE going public. Anyway, I want to sell the name. I was wondering. Is ebay the best place for that? I have it listed there now. Or should I approach GOOGLE? Their headquarters is called, "The GooglePlex". Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jeff

I would say never sell a domain name on eBay. There aren't enough general users of eBay that are interested in domains, and they usually sell undervalued.

Personally, I would contact companies that would possibley consider buying that domain, or if not get it listed on Sedo and try and sell it by advertising it to be in the featured category showcase section.

Thanks, Ginger. I kind of suspected that ebay was a losing cause but I will let the auction run its course and then not re-list. I think i will send GOOGLE an email asking if they'd like to buy it. See what they say and then move on to Sedo. I've heard some good things about Sedo.

p.s. I realize now that I may have posted this thread in the wrong are of the forums and apologize.

I can't really see how this is in the wrong forum as you're not advertising it for sale or an appraisal, you're just asking for advice on domain names :)

The name is a tm name no matter how you slice it or dice it unfortunately. reg'ing it before Google went public is not meaningful in terms of good faith.

A domain name that is a trademark of another company can just be claimed by that company without much you can do about it really.

Might be better to try and sell it quietly on forums/Sedo without bringing it to the attention of Google ;)

I would honestly approach Google about it.

Correct, especially when Google is able to demontrate trademark rights before
the domain name in question was registered.

You're right, Ginger. I'm not trying to sell the domain here or get an appraisal. I guess that's why the thread hasn't been puled. :)

I understand GOOGLE is TM'd but I'm not sure GooglePlex is TM'd. GooglePlex Productions started in 1998 right around the time GOOGLE came on the scene. I suppose the fact the the word GOOGLE is in the title though is the technicality. So perhaps I shouldn't approach them. Let it sit on Sedo and see what happens. I'm not going to push it and I don't think GOOGLE has a right for me quit using the domain. I mean, if I was using it to make money off of GOOGLE (which I am not), then they could sue.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

    Jeff

While one can believe that, it won't change the fact that Google is one of the
most unique and well-known trademarks on the planet. And your parking it via
Sedo can get their attention potentially faster and give them a ground to hold
    you liable.

Your ability to commercially use the domain name is limited. But one thing you
really wouldn't want to do is give them a darn good reason to go after you.

Maybe it's better just to make a small site that has nothing to do with Google and leave it this way. If somebody is interested then maybe you will be approached with an offer but I think it's a little bit dangerous to offer the name here and there.
