As we are coming into a new year, I was wondering what format is the best for the copywrite year on my page? Is it '© 2005-2006' or just '© 2006', what do you reckon?
I use both of those methods but I am changing over to my prefferred way "This is the © of sitename unless otherwise stated" This saves with hassel of having to change the date every year. If I had to choose which one of your dates to use it would be the first '© 2005-2006'
my first impression is to agree with the above poster - you're really simply stating that this is YOURS and what's important is to detail that fact. if i had to choose a date format for the copyright info, i'd say just use '© 2005'. Saying '© 2006' just invalidates the length of your claim to the copyright. If it's a legitimate copyright, you should know exactly when you copyrighted the material - if it's a "bogus" copyright (by bogus, i don't mean invalid - i mean simply that it's simply a date you are claiming to be the owner of the content from, with no actual legal documentation or claim) then by all means just say 2005 - the older the copyright the better. usually, you should use START - END. and the copyright sign is indeed not related to the year, as opposed to the company.
