Pondering whether I should recommend this to a client. Anyone who has paid the $300 to be listed in the Yahoo Directory please share your thoughts on if it is or was worth it. TY Tony ;~)
If I were you I would really recommend it if it is a directory-- because what I saw so far --all directories who listed on Yahoo have a PR7 backlink. Simple math-- a normal PR7 link cost $30/month and above. So its about $360 --per year--here you get it for $299.
What about getting 300 Bucks and flushing it down the toilet would you be happy Just take a look around at the spread you can get for 300$ USD Listings on a handful of directories and many with deep links too Well worth looking at including deep links and affordable http://www.forplex.com/submit.php Thanks for your consideration
Now that would not be wise if you own a normal site. I can assure you that you wont receive much traffic from it, less then the $300 in worth. It would certainly help raising your pagerank though.
The bad thing about submitting to Yahoo! is that it's reoccurring and once they get a hold of your credit card, there's no way of stopping them from charging it the same day the next year.
i would submit to aviva, alive, gii.in, directory dump and some other top directory in dp. but not in yahoo directory
lol i cant argue with that........ as i personally think the field has changed now that newer directories are standing up and litterally beatiing up on the old dinosaures of yesturyear. Though as jhrang said if its a directory and would be on a PR 7 page then i might be swayed... but its hard to pass up 10 to 15 strong directories you could be listed in with deeplinks and PR on the inner pages for a total of $300 spent. thx malcolm
I will submit my directory when the time comes, but no yet and I will keep it as many years as possible. If you really want to know just try it for the first year (if money is not a problem). The reviews I have read are about 50% Positive 50% Negative. You might need to ask someone with the same website as yours otherwise you will have a hard to time deciding whether or not is worthy.
By all means you could list your site in quite a few directories for that $300, but Yahoo Directory is powerfull!
Links from yahoo directory are nofollow and they don't count for SEO only as "branding" 300$ can be spend more wise ...
it really depends on the website and its budget, one site I listed (e-commerce) had a 300% jump in traffic because of it.
i dont believe that the yahoo directory worth 300$. if you have 300$ to spent , i think you have many link from high pr and strong web directories
Actually if you place it where it should go or where yahoo will place it if it is just a directory, it is only a pr5 backlink. Here is the link where directories are placed: http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_...b/Search_Engines_and_Directories/Directories/ While you might get lucky and get listed here where the PR7 backlink would be: http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_...ching_the_Web/Search_Engines_and_Directories/ While Yahoo is probably one if not the strongest directories out there, I would suggest that there are more benificial things that could be done with $300.00 a year, several of which have been stated above. Also while several of the directories are yearly based, there are still several that are powerful and are permanent.
Having worked in a company a couple of years ago which created business websites, the benefits of getting listed in the Yahoo Directory was worth the price. As Yahoo had leveraged the directory for local listings as well, the companies had leads coming in purely because of the directory.
I think it is worth it, but is it guaranteed that a site will be listed upon submission? Otherwise, $300 would be wasted.
I have a free listing in that directory for a non-commercial website, 4 levels deep. That listing provides me with almost no traffic whatsoever, and the backlink is only PR3. I notice that the Yahoo directory is no longer featured directly on their front page, which should give you some indication of it's declining importance relative to everything else they do. I think a listing in this directory is only going to be worthwhile if you can get your site on an upper-level page, which means your site topic has to be pretty general for it to pay off. I don't believe that applies to directories, even general ones.
Nope, the $299 is a review fee, no guarantee, except that you will be charged that every year if you are accepted.
