I have a problem and dont really know how to word it in the title but I can explain it. The page that is indexed in google is example - http://www.blahblah.com/index.htm - . The url I have now is http://www.blahblah.com and it also works with /index.html at the end. So my question is should I just rename the index page now to a .htm file or can I use a 301 redirect? If not a 301 redirect then what? Please help!!! Sorry I am not to term savvy with this stuff so I hope this explains it.

before you use 301 or 302

the first step you need to create a new form homepage but not index.htm
    go to your CP
set your 1st default page to the new form homepage but not index.htm
after that you may redirect blahblah.com/index.htm to blahblah.com

sometimes a plain 301 redirect from index.htm etc to site root can send the server into a permanent loop.
    Rewrite seems to work better.

Do not worry. Just go to google webmasters forum, register your site details. let google know what url you want google to index for your site and everything will be just fine.

Using a redirection would be a safe step towards it.
