ME is the worst by far I hated getting Vista but when I got my laptop I had no choice. I'll admit i've gotten used to it now and don't think its TOO bad. However, several times my computer has refused to boot and i've had to run the recovery DVD and run 'startup repair". A little too often.
Mac OS X = Best Windows XP = Pretty good Ubuntu = Good except for limited apps Vista = Is this a joke?
That is exactly the way in which Microsoft works, making you believe you have no other choice, as they have taught generations of new users how to accept whatever they give you without interacting with your own operating system. Starting with Windows ME your OS owns you, not you owning your OS. At first, ME imposed you restore, PC health and made you unable to exit to MS-DOS, which is a powerful OS when it comes to console operations. With the following OS, a DOS-like box came to substitute MS-DOS limiting its features. With Windows 2000, 2003 and XP, control over you increased so if you ignore how to tweak certain features you are unable to get the most of these systems. Vista is the worst when it comes to control because you can't even disable the Firewall as a "preventative measure" protecting you, but there trusted sites or operations between your intranet that require this feature disabled. It's not about Vista speed, which is good once the system is running, but it starts and shutdown slower than any other Microsoft OS. In addition, Vista has been around for long time now and there are still tons of unsupported drives and applications. Vista is merely candy-eye and good for the average user, but not if you deal with power features gaining access to control your system and, of course you do have an option to get rid of it or making a dual boot in your PC or laptop, but Microsoft expects you say "I have no other option than accept this" I downgraded my laptop with Vista installed and my actual multi-boot menu is this: MS-DOS 7.10 WINDOWS 98SE WINDOWS 2000 WINDOWS 2000 ADVANCED SERVER WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 3 LINUX SLACK For those who want to learn how, you can find further information on: Downgrade Vista to XP: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=10930 http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2287685,00.asp Install XP over VISTA (default) and make a dual boot: http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-vista-xp-vista-already-1946.html Installing VISTA over XP (default) and make a dual boot: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6157570.html
Vista is good for the looks, other than that XP leaves Vista in the dust. Vista is too unstable and throws random errors at me.
the user is the problem, not the system I use vista since it's first public beta and had really no problems.
^ Exactly. I had more problems with upgrading to XP within the first year than I did with Vista. Like I've said in other posts, most people dislike Vista because they are too ignorant to make it work for them. It's not my fault that you won't take a few hours to modify a few settings and make your computer run better. It's definably not the worst yet nor is it close. Don't misjudge it because you can't make it work for you. I've been working with Windows operating systems for 13 years now. If you know the in's and out's, you can make it work for you. If you don't, well, don't complain when your crappy Dual-Core computer with one gigabyte of RAM can't run Vista. Triple-Core or Quad-Core AMD + Windows Vista Ultimate x64 + Some Tweaks = Ultimate System. Period.
I think windows 2000 was the worst for me. I'm now on XP and only had a few problems and don't think I'll be upgrading to Vista yet. Might dual boot it with Xp when I get a chance to get round to doing it but at the moment XP will do just fine for me.
