Hello, I read a number of times that back links should be from a related website. For example, I have a poker site, so if I get a pr4 link from a poker site, it should be good; if I get a pr4 link from a website specialized in chocolate cookies, this is not relevant to my site, so it should be not that good. So the question is, in the example above, I want to compare these two pr4 links; how do they really compare? Has someone ever tried to quantify the difference in juice between one related link, say pr4, and another unrelated pr4 link? Many people (including me) have links from unrelated (or weakly related) urls; so what are they really worth; someone said (Einstein, no he was not born, Obama, no; I forgot who) that all links are good (of course except from bad neighborhood). But how good is a pr4 link from unrelated site
i dont know about quantifying, but get your poker m8s together and get links from each other, there arent many pr4 poker related pages so it will be very good for u...
m8s? what is that? there are poker pages all the way to pr7 and many pr4, mostly home pages. anyway the question is about unrelated back links.
ok, Thank you for the answers so far. The point is that I heard seo gurus saying that unrelated links or no good; can someone please clarify that, or is it just bs; I see a lot of websites getting good pr and using unrelated links; so what is the catch??
well, in theory a link from a site on theme is supposed to be much better than site totally unrelated, said that if you start looking at some of the ibl of n.1 in google you will find out that most of the high pr sites that link to them are not related, but they are still n.1 I would say a link from a >pr5 page is always good, if is on theme better (only who made the algo now how much) if is not on theme, no bother, is still a nice link to have.....
I would say that only Google can quantify the difference in power between a related and non-related link from sites with equal PR, all part of the magical and mystical Google Algo Just one thing i would add, don't just take the PR power of a page as an indicator of how much PR you may potentially gain, it also depends on how many links the page already has. A link from a PR3 page that only has 5 other links is better than a link from a PR4 page with 120 links.
Every (Dofollow) backlink is helpful, but there is so many factors to focus on while trying to determine an estimated juicy value.. PR, Domain age, Total outgoing links, Title, Content, Link place, etc.. So in my opinion i don't think you will get to know the real value, but the more relevant the site is the better
Thank you. (A) You see the seo gurus always say get relevant links; fine. (B) Please may I know the value of irrelevant links; I have seen many sites getting their pr up with unrelated links that I am starting to doubt (A), and if not at least I am starting to believe that this is a big overstatement; my impression is that (1) pr of the link is VERY important, then (2) keyword, but (3) thematically related site sending the link, I am not sure so can a guru who understands (A) please prove it??
thats some what true, from my past experience, with my mortgage website, I didnt get any good ranking until I started linking to mortgage site.
