The WayBack Machine - WTF?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by garyganu, Jul 17, 2006.

I registered my site back in dec. 04. I got my first backlink back in June of 2005 and have been indexed in google since then and consistently building backlinks. For some reason the wayback machine has no data on my site. Does anybody know how long it takes to be listed there? It doesn't seem normal to not be listed since my site has been around for over a year now?

    Thanks

There are so many more important "worries" than this. Keep building links.

I've got a really strong site registered back in early '05 that's not listed in archive.org yet... seems their really out of date.

I've had a site be indexed by archive.org and not show up on the wayback machine for over a year. Seems completely random.

It's one of the places I always check before buying a site. I like to be able to see when they got pages up and if they were on topic for what I am considering buying.

I've always seen it as a nice way to assert copyright in future too.

WaybackMachine doesn't seem to collect data anymore? I haven't seen any recent updates. Has anyone else?

Well, I doubt you would include this in your site, but make sure your robot.txt file dosen't contain this:

    User-agent: ia_archiver
    Disallow: /

    Code (markup):
which tells archive.org to exclude your results from their spider.
