I think I may've found a decent example of the difficulties faced with a .name domain name. I'd be really interested to hear from you guys why you think this is happening.. A google for "Frank Bauer" returns www.frankbauer.com as #1, www.frankbauer.name as #3.. while the .com has a PR 3 and the .name a PR 5. http://www.google.com/search?q=frank+bauer However, link:www.frankbauer.com returns only 2 backlinks while link:www.frankbauer.name shows about 53.. a lot of which are article submissions and other direct attempts at ranking his domain name in competition with the .com version (who is a photographer) Any speculations on why this could be the case? One speculation is the .com has been active since May, 2001 while the .name only since Aug 2004. Any other ideas? This really makes me question the value of a .name given the barriers to entry.
