The value of a Google Sitemap

    Is there a significant difference when you add a Google sitemap to an existing website. Do the Googlebots react differently to these sitemaps?

    Basically, a sitemap tells the bots about the pages on your site in terms of importance and updating frequency. If you update your sitemap regularly, the bots will come back more often.

    Submitting the sitemap.xml will help your pages get indexed by the google faster. In other words you are just hastening the indexing process. That's all :)

    I dont rate sitemaps. I have a site top of the rankings and no map. But i suppose it cant hurt to have one

    Yes its the easiest way to ping Google directly..whether it be you are introducing a new site or a new page to your existing site.

    Before I added my sitemap only about 5% of my pages were indexed with google. After the sitemap about 90% are indexed.

    I would highly recommend a sitemap!
