Here is what I do not get about adwords.
I do a search on Google.com via a US proxy and there is only one ad for my search term which according to wordtracker has thousands of queries everyday.
Google says it wants $6.46 per click!

And another search phrase which gets thousands of queries same deal. 3 ads but they want 52 cents a click. Anyone understand this phenomena?

It's bloody ridicules that we have to use a proxy server to monitor our true position. Even Google don't seem to be able to grasp the concept that WWW = World Wide Web.

Are you sure you were using a US proxy Jim ... some proxies aren't very reliable.

Aside from that the Google tools for costing and positions are absolutely unreliable. Just put a 10 cent bid in and see how it goes after a couple of days, at least you will get an idea of what position you are in.
Again Google could say you are in #15 but when you look you are actually in #7.

Well it looks like a US Proxy 209.7.140.14:3128 . It looks like it is Illinois and Google gives me IL ads so...

For a keyword where there are no other ads it tells me I must increase my bid to $6.46. That is the lowest bid I can make. Now if the KW was mortgages... well ok... but it ain't.

 

Try the DP Sandbox...you'll get more results there...also many people geo target ads so what you see isn't necessarily all the ads IMO.

 

Thanks will do. I thought about the geo target so I tried UK proxy. Same deal - no ads. The word is a product name. All I can think is that someone has bid really high and only displays their ads at a certain time. But I would have thought then the price would have been cheaper at other times.

update: okay could not resist... I have set up the first adwords affiliate campaign with amazon now... $4/day with 0.10 and 0.20 bids on a dvd title... currently featuring 1st for my preferred keywords

I'll spend $20 on this (so 5 days) and let's see how it goes if I don't have a sale in the next 2 days, then I'll change the product.

update 2: well I cooled down the excitement and paused the campaign for a better strategy I am developing a mathematical model to tweak the process (yes I study engineering ) . will give you the results by tomorrow.

One question though, is there a way to pauze the adsense campaigns? Because I'm on holiday often during the winter season it would be very nice if I could pauze the ad campaigns for a week or so and then continue without losing a lot of uncontrolled money during the weeks of my absence.

Progress update:

Sold my first item and Amazon gave a 6.5% commission on it. I made 7.73 on the sale. They also bought another product but I haven't seem commission on that yet (maybe it hasn't shipped yet?).

20 clicks, 1 conversion
7.73 commission
2.43 paid for ads
5.30 profit

I paused my campaign while looking for something else to push. Had 30 clicks and no sales other than my accidental one from a link on a site.

Info about the campaign:

I tried selling a drawing table from dickblick.com with the following ad,

The landing page was: http://www.dickblick.com/zz501/56/

I had figured I ought to have had a sale by now, I have the price in the ad to weed out curiosity clicks, and my keywords on adwords where "drawing table" and "drawing tables", along with some negative keywords to stop people looking for old and wooden drawing tables.

I think I'll checkout clickbank and amazon now.

This AdGroup has been doing weird things. Traffic one day would be way up, and then the next way down. After this roller-coaster ride I have 1 sale made on Jan 17, which I have not recieved any earnings for (was in stock, no idea what went wrong). Now I have sold other Amazon items, but how can I tell where the sales came from?!

To top if off most of my keywords are now "inactive" and need .40-1.00+ a click to activate

Out of curiosity I have started having clicks yesterday totalling 13 clicks from my adwords stats, but the curious thing is that I don't display any click on my amazon affiliate account.. how can it be?

 

That is very strange.
i run before campaign with amazon and my status is display ok stats.
How you setup your link?

 

Amazon updates its stats only once a day in the morning U.S. time so that may be why your not seeing you clicks?

 

I'm waiting for adsense to receive my money by wire transfer... Takes up to 10 days
