You don't bold the words, that happens when the words you use are the same as the words the person uses when searching.
For example in the add above if the person uses the word Laptop in their search the result returns the word Laptop in bold.
If they were searching for "new laptop" both those words would come up bold.

And no it doesn't cost extra.
    Hope this helps.

I'm treating this a bit like share market trading. You need to have a stop loss. I have just paused another program which I have spent $52AUD on for $12USD revenue. The reason it took me so long to pause it is that I had to try a number of tweaks to see if I could get conversions up. 25,000 impressions with a 2% CTR. However I forgot to use negative keywords on this one which probably accounts for the loss.

Jim, could you give us some (generic) examples of how you feel negative keywords would have benefitted your campaign?

    Sure thing-
I could have added the word 'free' as a negative kw for starters! Ouch that cost me. Then anyone searching for a free version of what I was selling would not have seen my ad.

The other problem was that I needed 3% conversion on the CTs to make a profit. The item only had a $4 commission.

Anyone have any ideas how you can work out which ad and which KW worked? I know it's easy if you have your own landing page....

You need an expensive tracking program for that :( .

As well as using negative keywords don't forget to target specific countries, no point trying to sell something to a country where their will be no interest in it.

And I recommend turning off content...when I did that the costs went down significantly. People aren't really searching for something on content sites, they are just browsing and click on adds just to see what it's about. Fraud also enters into the equation here...made for adsense crap pages etc.

Good point about content. I just keep the content costs down around 3 cents so I can keep an eye on things.

I'm in too guys. Just set up 2 adword campaigns to the bol.com affiliate program. I'm trying to sell 2 high priced books.

Do you guys know any good resources on writing adwords texts ? I'm new at this and I don't know if my texts will be effective.

Thanks and good luck to you all

Usually it is less than 0.1% for content.

This thread inspired me to get started too and actually made me discover that I had a single sale on my CJ.com account which I havn't checked in a month or so :) That was from simple placing a text link on a site, but I've started a little adwords campain today and am getting good CTR for now, +10% with an average position of 3.6.

No new conversions have showed up yet, but I'll let the campain spend the $6 I allowed for the day and see what the stats say tomorrow. Still seeing +10% CTR (but there aren't that many searches for this product).

My ad goes something like this btw:

    Blue Widget
    Blue Widget, adjustable tilt
    50% off, now just $99.98
    www.example.com
