    Hi
I have found in my case the reason has been relevancy of my ad. People click - and then do not get what they expected OR they were after something free. Make sure you use negative keywords.

    Cool!

I agree the lack of decent stats is a real pain. Having a test account would be a nice idea. Test out a new idea and if it works out roll it over into the main account and try something new with the test account. I wonder if CJ allows that...

As I mentioned I started promoting another clickbank product on a site (not PPC).

Had 10.000 impressions and 88 clicks yesterday, had two sales and made $37.38

    So:

    Cost $0;
    Profit: $37.38

I proberly lost $5 or so in adsense revenue, but still a success.

Definitely interested to see the difference in stats between the direct link to the merchant and the landing page. Let us know as the stats form.

    OK!
I'm dropping my Amazon product. The new Stephen King Book the Cell Audio Book. :(

    3538 Impressions / 110 clicks / 11 cents a click/ cost $12.10/ 0 sales!
    My landing page was http://www.king-stephen.com/Stephen-King-Cell.html
    Not one sell- that sucks!

Ad text was - Stephen King's New Book CELL on Audio CD's. Buy Now! Only $32.97 That's a savings of 34%. Ships for Free with Super Saver Shipping.

It wouldn't have paid anything with a 1-2% sell rate anyway.

Alright I just joined the noob challenge ;) .. Found a product on CJ I am promoting on AdWords. There are other's promoting the product on AW as well, but we'll see how I do. Payout is $10 per lead. Have my max set to $10 daily just to limit my liability right now and get some stats on a minimal amount of clicks. Not paying more than $0.30 per click for any keyword.

What are CB's rules regarding sending traffic to their merchants directly from adwords? (ie: no landing page)

They allow it on all their products as far as I can tell. Unlike some of the other affiliate programs out there. I have tried CB, CJ, Shareasale, MaxBounty but so far CB surpasses them all.
What I have learned so far -
Keep my costs as low as possible - it is rare I will pay more than 13 cents AUD but I will try for around 5.
Make sure your copy stands out from your competitors.
Make sure your merchant has a good landing page.
Don't choose products with less than $20 commission
Write at least 2 ads per adgroup for testing

Excellent advice, I played with CJ for a bit but that didn't work out too well for me. I think I'll take your advice and try CB.

Good post Jim, your nailing it :D

I have been a CJ affiliate for a few months now with 16 programs on my website.
Compared to the other two affiliate companies I use CJ just doesn't convert :( . I don't know if the programs are crap but they are in the same industry as the others and have similar landing pages.
I only keep them for window dressing or to fill out my site but it would be a nice bonus if they did convert a bit more.

As it stands I wouldn't use CJ products for a PPC program.
I still find CJ a hard site to navigate around.

I use wordtracker.com a lot and I realise it's accuracy is a little off. However on one campaign I am running WT is predicting 7 searches across ALL SE's in 24 hours whereas AW is showing around 200 impressions / day for the same KW on my campaign.

    Jimboot,

When you recommend to stick with CB and create multiple ads per ad group for testing, I assume you mean to test CTR, correct? Seeing as there is no way to determine which ad converted with CB (unless you have more than one CB account) this seems to be the only thing to test. One thing to keep in mind is that just because one ad has better CTR than another doesn't necessarily mean it will convert better.

    When I set up a CB campaign in Overture/Yahoo my listings get denied with the following reason;

"Site Ownership -We are unable to accept your listing because your web site does not have sufficient personalization. Web sites with affiliate relationships must take the user to a personalized page. Personalization must include your name or your company name and keywords submitted for this page must have a clear relationship to the content on the personalized pages. Please check that the page you submitted meets the requirement above and resubmit your listing."

What the he** does that mean?

Well...im afraid to say im giving up. Ive tried selling at least 6 different things, spent $250, and gotten nowhere. I might try again later, but for now ill stop.

I figure ive got better things to spend $250 on next month.

    Good luck everyone else!

Basically you have to own the landing page. You can't link directly to the merchant. I haven't used overture for this reason. I have read that others who do this put up a product review page which then drives traffic to the merchant.

Oh well at least you had your 'stop loss' in place. From what I saw of your posts I think you were paying too much for your clicks. I am finding that 1/100 clicks convert. So if the clicks cost me 10 cents ea I need a product that has at least $20 commission. 100 clicks @ 10 cents = $10 so profit is 100% Well.. its working for me anyway. Now I have to try and find a way of ramping things up.
