My thoughts exactly, it couldn't be done in a month let alone a week. If you could beat out Google and be #1 then your services would be demanded by many large corporations and you would be set for life. I personally think it is impossible to outrank them on there own search engine and with there company name as the keyword. Like Ryan said before, if they mistakenly penalized themselves then yes it might be possible. When I did a search, Wikipedia was coming up 8th on the list.

if term searched for = "google" then http://www.google.com/ = first page first position.

I don't think they would let it happen. ;)

You have as much chance of out ranking Yahoo for the search term "Yahoo".

I think it would be easier to outrank Yahoo. :) Especially since Google has 3x as many backlinks as Yahoo.

It would be easier, but still impossible.

That is, if its possible, for one impossible impossiblity, to be easier or harder than another. :D

    Wow......
Google has like a "trillion" backlinks!

If websites are like the "little" stars in the sky,
    Google is like...oh I don't know...

THE "HUGE" UNIVERSE THAT BRINGS THEM ALL TOGETHER !!!

(Can I get a few rep points for that awesome example?...oh...never mind.)

Anyway, talk about a "David" against a "Goliath".

Boy! There's not enough green dots in this DP forum (...no...the world) to give you if you pull that one off, but hey...

What's life without a challenge or three, right??? :) LOL

Thanks all for sharing and replying. I mean, most of us are in the business of getting higher positions for our sites and clients' ones, and the limit is the sky, in our case, outranking Google on its own search engine.

I also think that is impossible. Even in a life time it is not feasible for a SEO or a team of SEOs to build the amount of backlinks Google currently have. But if there is a slight possibility to it, that would be to start with a TLD with Google in it (for instance a small countries TLD which is not yet owned by Google or its partner), the older the better, and work from there with a genuinely unique idea that will attract natural links. This is if Google doesn't "manually" set up the rankings for the top keywords relevant to its properties, and if they don't penalize (and sue) you for copyright ...

Hey I might have and idea on how to outrank google, yahoo and msn.

Hint : it is like all the back link that they have will be deflected by a mirror to my website. Think about it

You think of mirroring all the sites that have backling to Google? It should be pretty expensive and impossible again. Even if you do mirror them they won't have the PR of the original site, so the links value is decreased. ;)
You must buy a lot of PR10 links to outrank Google. :D

Did you even look at the first page of results for 'google' - 9 out 10 results are theirs :)

    if (search="google") then
    $result[1] = "www.google.com"
    endif

    That's your answer :D

Google probably has some sort of failsafe mechanism in the works where if something like that ever happens, Google will shut down before the site reaches #1, temporarily ban the offending site until an investigation ensues.

The owner of the competing site should run and hide, expecting a hitman to knock on your door soon.

    Good luck.

If you do it then I'm sure Microsoft will take you for the keyword "search"

    It can be done.

Just offer Ten Million Dollars for that challenge, and believe me -- it will be done. Impossible is nothing.

I just dunno how, but don't underestimate the powah of 10 million dallaz.
