Yes I know the title is rather eye catching, and thats completley intentional. I don't want you to throw away another 15 cent click on a back button. About 5 years ago I spent a few thousand dollars testing the so called top PPC search engines. I used a list of a few hundred of the terms related to the product I was selling. I actually made a small profit on some of the websites I was promoting. I tested 20 different affiliate sales pages and I figured I would make money on at least 2 or 3 of them and then put my money into the ones that worked. I did not invest in further in the ones that made no sales and eventually narrowed it doen to the top 3 converting sales pages. Ok, so all I have to do is focus on what works right? To my disappointment, I barely broke even after several months. Were the affiliate programs complete losers? or Was I targeting on the wrong keywords? 5 years later. The latter was true. I now create my own presell pages that are optimized for the search engines to test a variety of keywords and determine which keywords are typed in that compells a visitor to click through to the sales page. This is the key. I track which keywords bring hits to my presell page. Then. Track which presell page brings visitors to the affiliate sales page. The visitors that reach the sales page are prequalified because they have already read about the product and are interested. Do you know where this is going? I have a way to track the keyword trail from the sales page right back to the google search phrase. And I do it for free. I make a list of the keywords that are bringing the real buyers and use it in the magor PPC search engines. Another way is to run a PPC campain to get the same results. Without detailed stats, PPC is like shooting in the dark. Andrew Smith
