I guess the big question is 'does the psychology of searchers vary by the engine they prefer?' My guess would be yes, but only slightly. Still, there's money to be made in the small details.

What blows my mind is the number of URLs entered. My parents and people I know over 60 do stuff like that. I will definitely start adding more URLs into my keywords.

Okay, it's going to take me quite a while to get all the data loaded, and my site is slow (sigh).

However, while it is under construction, I wouldn't mind if a few people popped in and looked at the search interface and gave some suggestions on whether or not the slicing and dicing I provide is useful -- or whether something else is needed.

Please note, it is as ugly as sin and is just a raw demonstration... I hope to refine it as I get time. http://www.theaoldata.com/

I removed direct url requests last night. It accounted for about 5 million of the 18 million results. Just shows the level of intelligence of the average internet user.

I was similarly surprised. It's a newbie error. So maybe what this teaches us is there are still an awful lot of very light users out there, and they make up a large chunk of the internet's users.

This newbie effect may be slightly exaggerated because it's AOL, notoriously the ISP for people with no tech knowledge. But I would guess that you get this kind of thing on other search engines to only a slightly lesser degree.

I think it's safe to assume that the average AOL customer is a bit less tech-savvy than the average web user in general.

I don't really know this company's reputation as well as you US guys do, do you think these results are skewd towards very non-technical people?

they are based on AOL users, so if they seem less tech savy it's likely because they use AOL./

    Hmmm!!!

This thread has moved form Adsense!

Is this because most of the discussion is now keyword centric?

    Thanks

My datacenter returns less than 500K results.
    For "kill lice" even less.

    Good track...

Hey guys, I'm new around here. I've had a site up for a while that addresses some of the limitations mentioned here. A search on "email" (without quotes) will return all search queries containing "email" (and not just those that start with the term). Also this is the full database and not just a portion or edited set of results. And response time should only be one or two seconds. Anyway, happy hunting.
