The typical positions you aim for?

Firstly im aware that anyones going to aim for 1st position, not in all but in some campaigns :)

But i often read of people preferring to have lower positions for their ads on the first page, again im aware thats not the same approach for all campaigns, but can clearly work for some.

Recently i had the belief that you had to aim for top positions, but now im guessing it may be slighty daft? and that you would have to be a mug to pay certain cpc in some niches?

At the same time though i understand that it is still possible to have top positions nice and cheaply if approached correctly and with various other factors being invloved.

In general though id like to know what positions you tend to aim for? maybe not neccessarily always on page one either?

I know your various campaigns are going to differ so i know people are not going to say that they aim for position 4 always, but just to get a feel of how you like to position yours.

Also i notice a significant difference between the top 2 positions cost for example compared to lower down the page, i noticed it can be a rather different cost.

Depends on the niche really. If you get a good CTR and high conversions with ad placement at last place why bid anymore and possibly lose your overhead.

I usually aim for keywords with no competition but have high amount of traffic.

When you mention no competition, do you mean literally none or do you mean when theres only say 4 - 5 competing ads?

And what would you refer to as high amounts of traffic, roughly? taking into account they have no competition.

Also is the high traffic due to broad keyword searches or actually with exact match?

If you have more effective ad copy then competitors, 3-5 will do. I'm in some fairly competitive niches but they convert well so I prefer to stretch out and not blow my budget on pricey high positions.

A lot of competitors have pretty poor ads . . . but big wallets.
