I know not all redirects pass on that much loved link juice. I believe that only a 301 redirect passes this on. I am not that technical and wanted to know whether the link below would pass on link juice and what type of redirect is it? Brian Piddick 2008 May the juice be with you
I don't have any. I'm just using common sense. This is an internal link, in this case, the "destination" is: domain.com/cgi-bin/redir.pl, so this is considered the page that the link leads to. However, upon getting to this page, there is a temporary redirect to a different site, however, that is done by going to /cgi-bin/redir.pl first. If you ask me, such things could even trigger some sort of "alert" or suspicion, as it could be flagged as a "doorway" cheat. Anyway, I don't have experience with this to back me up, so I also wish to see someone sharing experience with this sort of thing.
I read something about any redirect that is *not* a 301 will even result in penalties...especially META redirects.
Of course that can be right! Why wouldn't it be? You are redirecting one page to another. The page where the redirect is - loses its value. If the site has many of these pages - the site in general loses value. That is only logical.
I think you misunderstood me. I am talking about the website the link is pointing to - how can the website be affected because another websites linking strategy is flawed. Markn 26 said it would result in penalties, i can understand that ther website that uses and hosts the links can be affected due to their linking structure but how can the external seperate websites (website b) be penalised because website a uses that linking structure?
Oh, no, the external site that is linked to cannot be affected and will not get ANY penalties because of site's A bad linking structure.
