The Truth About Out-Bound Links and Google Penalties

Many people seems to think that Google will penalize you or penalize sites linking to you, or your link will have no value if you're linking to a site with high outbound links. You know what, guys, it's only true if your site is nothing more than pages and pages of unrelated links, banner ads, etc. Well, you get the picture.

If your site is an authority site, or a site filled with lots and lots of quality original content, and you sell ad space from your site to businesses related to the content of your site, that is definitely NOT going to adversely affect your site's rankings, nor the rankings of the sites who advertise on your site.

Now, I know you could have been told differently by various so-called SEO experts out there. But please be careful who you listen to. I don't sell SEO services so I'm not trying to peddle my wares here at all. I'm just sick of the myths circulating around the web about what Google will and will not penalize. I'm sick of seeing people get taken advantage of.

    Here's to your success!

Thanks for sharing, are you certain? Because I was wondering, if I've got a top commenters form on my blog, which appears on every page, is that a lot of outgoing links to be concerned about? Thanks :)

yes, I'm certain. I would not be concerned with your top commenters form. That's a good way of rewarding your readers for providing you with comments.

yes, I have. If sites get penalized for outbound links, how do you explain authority sites retaining their rankings?...never mind my sites, lets look at bigger fish: JohnChow.com, or ProBlogger.net, mashable.com---all the online newspaper and entertainment sites. They all have lots of outbound links.

I think as eric_wahlberg posted above: great content plus quality outbound links, which are relevant to your site and readers=Google love.

Makes sense, why would you be penalised for running a legitimate, successful business?
