Plus people scrape your code thinking the design and text is the sole reason why the site is number one.

I was simply responding to your post, not trolling. I felt you were making illogical assumptions in one of your points, it was not a personal attack. Relax for christs sakes, sorry if my post seemed rude.

well, let me take you guys to this old thread with the similar topic.

Of course the stats is just numbers. There are many other things get involved. In many cases, if there is no meta tag, visitors will probably ignore the link. The title, probably the most important one should attract surfers the best.

But if there is no outstanding/catchy title or description, I am sure most will click the #1 link. I would assume people will only ignore #1 and click #2 or #3 when the link title is poor.

Like me, I make it a rule of thumb never to click on #1, most of the time they paid someone to get up their and their really not as good as they say they are, #2-8 usually put the hard work into their sites wich tells me that they really think they have something to offer, for that I am gonna give them a look see :)

Well, maybe the data is different for different search keywords. I rank #1 for keywords with low competition and #3-5 for keywords with moderate competition. I get more traffic from the low-volume keyword than from many of the #3-5 medium-volume keywords.

My favorite with Google is 1+2, but I do agree sometimes (not always) #2 and #3 perform better. (I actually haven't been telling people this, because I was keeping it my secret and didn't know that others noticed as well.)

Ranking #1 almost always has a better CTR than any other ranking, despite paid advertising.

#10 is better than #9 and #8 statistically.

I can't back that up with a source though, I read it a while back. It's true based on my experience though.
