I have the same problem as you do. Last nite I was delighted finally google is giving my vacation site the right description and title vs just the url. Altho not all pages in the site were shown, I still thought okay, we are making some progress. Just did a search today I cant even find the site using the site command. This is the second time google does this to me, lift me up and drop me way down..... it is soooooooooooooo frustrating.... grrrrrrrrr.....
My site is down for about 190 search terms and up for about 5. However, as I mentioned in earlier posts, 95% of my search engine referrals are from search terms that only get 1-2 hits per month, though I have over 50,000 search engine referrals mer month. It will be interesting to see how this affects my overall traffic, I am guessing not very much.
Great update for me. I've been working hard on content, and not focused on links lately, and its finally paid off. I've broken into the Top 10 for some very competitive keywords, and even displaced some competitors that should have been bumped long ago. DS
Count me in the "devastating blow" group. I have had some gains on some new sites but 2 of my main sites have been kicked in the teeth pretty hard.
I think this update will stick, as a real PR update was due early this month in any case. The speculation that this is temporary or a filter has temporarily been removed is not correct IMO. I don't think this is a "filter filter" but a proper update and if it's adversely affected your rankings, you will have to wait for another 3 months before you see some positive results, I'm afraid.
Ditto, This is the strangest thing I can remember since Florida. No real relevance to the terms that I was tracking as well. Hopefully they are just adjusting some information and will resort after that, otherwise....
Disagree, but that is the great (or not so great) thing about this. None of us know, and all we can do is speculate. We will just have to wait and see, then adapt.
Is there a reason for everyone to expect these changes to revert back? Or, is it just the ones who've lost ground that are hoping that this update's not permanent. You are right though, about the fact that none of us are really sure about what's really going on. IMO this will stay, purely because we were due for a PR (not the toolbar PR) update as the last one was in mid November, and the one before that in mid August.
Ok, what does this tell me? The numbers are all over the place. I was at #1 for quite some time. Now I'm down in the 60's. Does this make any sense to anyone.
I am speculating that they are changing their algo just a bit to make their SERPs a little more relevant. I think all the money MSN is throwing into their ad campaign has them a little worried. MSN has been hammering them about their SERPs not being as relevant. This update might be intended to increase the weight of content over BLs.
Have we had a PR update? I lost ground and gained ground. I just see the sites that are now #1 for a few of the geo-targetted KW phrases that I check, and as a consumer, I would be absolutely PO'd if I knew what used to be there compared to what is there right now (that includes a few local competitors as well). We'll see... if they did make a massive change in their algo, time to adjust and adapt...
