I believe it is a great time to buy more carefully researched stocks. This is a panic and it will end.

Investors (here in europe) say that the stocks will keep falling...

Two weeks ago Lisbon stock exchange was peeking 2001 record values, in a just a day it lost almost 3.5Bilion €.

i would wait +/- a week more before buying something.

Don't worry. They will bounce back - they are oversold in the short term.

For the long term, things don't look good at all. People leveraged themselves excessively in last few years and made a killing. It is pay-back time now.

I love it. Remember, you can make money when stocks go up and down.

And just because the DOW goes up or down doesn't mean ALL stocks went up or down.

When blood is in the street, that's the time to capitalize.

Don't worry. They're gonna move up towards the upward trend again. Its just that the Foreign Investors were making some profit.

I believe it will still continue to fall as there is not clear picture to the extent of damage the sub prime crisis has caused.

One of the poor fellow at my work invested $50,000 into Rio Tinto about 4 weeks ago. it's now almost worth half that much. He was doing the short term game. invest for a week and then sell the stock at maybe 5-10cents more and make a profit. Now is has to be in it for the long haul.

RTP (Rio Tinto) on the NYSE isn't down 50% from 4 weeks ago. What is it in your market?

On the NYSE it's $244.70 per share. And you wouldn't buy it for a 10 cent move, because $50k would get you $20 (yes, twenty bucks).

Anyway, I'm just curious what it's trading for on whatever market you have.

Also, tell your friend to let someone else mange his money. He'll make more in the long run. You should NEVER lose 50% on a trade.

A simple piece of advice to making money: figure out what the masses are doing and do the opposite.

That's true in many things. Mark Twain said it best:

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."

With stocks, your greatest swings come when you buy when no one wants it and sell when everyone wants it.

Of course, sometimes there are reasons why no one wants it (AHM comes to mind recently).
