The So Called MSN Ban

    I have read here and there that people have seen sites drop from MSN over night. Ranking well then boom, gone from the top 100. I never thought much of it because I hadn't seen it. That was till today. I have a site I have been working on and over night from yesterday to today it dropped for all keywords. Is MSN giving sites the axe or is this temporary? Thoughts anyone? :confused:

    Yup.. one of my site got hit today. It was #1 yesterday. Today, it's gone! No where to be found. It looks like the same penality as Yahoo.

    Do you run co-op on your site or have lot of links to it?

    Most of my sites are still indexed / have serps. Sometimes around 500 backlinks some up to 1300. I hope to see no changes or changes for the better.

    One of mine dropped completely today too... but its pretty normal for this site with MSN, history has shown it will be in the top 10 again within a week

    The site I am talking about has 3,000 points of co-op and is hosting the co-op links. I also have been doing lot of link building fo the site. I didn't think co-op effected MSN or could get a ban from MSN.

    One of my sites also totally dissappeared from two keywords, but still shows on other's so it's not a total ban.

    I fell out on all keywords, then today I'm back on top. Just relax and ride it out, it should go back soon for you.

    Well as you guys said, It is back. Not for all the terms but a good portion of them are back. I think the site was gone for maybe a day. Good thing I didn't throw the panic switch. ;)

    MSN must be having growing pains. I have noticed their crawlers a lot less active then 3 months ago as well.

    Experiencing the same problem here.

    Dropped from 2 relatively competitive terms (that actually brought traffic from MSN)

    Pages are still there in the index, backlinks have decreased though from:
    12,000 -> 4,000 and 1500 -> 500

    As was previously briefly mentioned I've seen these flunctuations in MSN before, I'll give it another few days before I start to worry, especially when so many other people are having similar problems

    Yeah I have seen people elsewhere getting giddy because they have moved up, but I know of too many legitimate sites that have completely disappeared to think this is going to be the final shakeout for all of this.
