The Significance of ?gclid= in URL Tracking?

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by T0PS3O, Nov 1, 2006.

    For the past few days all my AdWords auto-tagged URLs have "god" in the gclid parameter:

    gclid=COb1wftMpogSWQJPQgodwXk53

    Otherwise they all seem to be random strings but for the "god".

    Is Google trying to say something? Do you see this in your tagged URLs?

    They're telling you that your landing page has reached the minimum requirement for quality ...

    ... there's still a few more levels of deity to reach before your bids are reduced below the $10 mark ...

    gclid is used by Google Analytics for auto-tagging AdWords destination URLs.

    LOL yeah, I know what it's for, just questioning the not-so-random addition of "god" to the random string.

    I'll just assume my keyword selection skills, ad copy writing skills and landing page creating skills have achieved god-mode/god-like status :cool:

    It is a way that Google Adwords allows its users to “Auto-Tag” a landing page in an Adwords campaign. Auto-Tagging is simply the process of making sure that data is being collected from a landing page including the source, medium, term and content information.
