I'll take a guess here and repeat what I said at the start of this experiment.

Vigor - How many posts have you made with the Business Nerd link in?

BFTUK - How many posts have you made with a link to the site that needs indexing?

Do you mean how many posts where i have posted a direct link to that page within the post?

    None.

How many posts have i made on that forum, which display my signature?

    3k +

Could it be that BFTUK's site was only cached & not indexed?

Sig links never made Aaron wall’s and Andy Hagans 101 list http://www.seobook.com/archives/001792.shtml

Think about the reason why people with experience in SEO don’t think sig links have much weight in goggle.

Then you can concentrate getting links that actually do count in Google!

Well why don't you educate us then?

Frankly i could'nt give a damn what other people think, i've seen the results with my own eyes and rankings. If you don't believe that they have an effect fine, your wrong but fine.

wha? do you mean all 3k+ posts have never had your sig in? I didn't realise you were talking about a different forum this changes the ball game completely as DP and that forum are not alike, for one that forum displays the title in the URL

I was just clarifying that my signature appeared on each post and that that URL appeared nowhere other than my signature. IE i did'nt type it directly in the post like www.this.co.uk

It does'nt change the ball game, i chose not to put an anchor text, or do you mean that forum uses SEF URLS?

DP will get spidered an crawled alot more than the other site.

What might have scewed results was that that page was on an existing site, nevertheless i've had sites indexed before with a sole signature link.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Vigor's experiment was for a brand new site.

So how long did it take you to get your other new sites indexed by Google before with a sole signature link?

I've not tried a precise experiment on a new domain.

I've had sites indexed in less than 24 hours using signature links across a number of forums i post on.

Yeah, signature link is one of the best and fastest ways of getting sites indexed and directory submissions as well. Just make sure that the forum where you provide signature links are of high quality as that factor will also be taken into consideration.

Now that I think about it my blog first got indexed thanks to DP. But that was back in November I think and I didn't record the data about it.

BFTUK - I think the point of the experiment was a sig link from DP. I still find it hard to believe that the site didn't get indexed with a sig link as I'm sure my blog got indexed pretty quickly

I have reason to beleive that the failure of indexation in google or Yahoo was due to the site being a subdomain. You can see the Marketflux link in my sig that was indexed in 3 days with only dp sig links.

aha! so does this prove sub-domains are harder to index? links have less weight on subdomains? sig links (mass links) have less weight on sub domains? so many more questions pop to the head after that :)

Yes it proves sub domains are harder to index. Not sure about link weight though. If your going to make a new site, make sure not to use a subdomain!

I know of a subdomain with a PR higher than the main domain itself. Domain or subdomain is not an essential factor on Google ranking. Google looks at subdomain and main domain on the same level.

you are going to test to see if you get any traffic your content is going to drive that and not your backlinks
