Msn shows only 2 links from the same domain. U can change this in the options. Im showing 896 backlinks from dp in msn, which is interesting since yesterday there were over 1400.

    Due to directory submission?
So the forum signatures never helped?

Is sig in the forum will help rank keywords in the major search engines. How many times can I used this sig so as to rank or position the keywords?

A great effort by vigor and the rest who participated in sig. links.
Thanks for telling that forum links provides backlinks but it certainly doesn't help u getting indexed !

can anyone tell me that if the same experiment was carried out for a website, the result would have been the same ?

What I have known till now is that the forum signatures do not help in getting the site crawled by the SE’s but only live-links which are posted above the signature space are crawled. Forum sig’s are just for human visitors and it’s the directory submissions that helped the site get indexed.

Nice to know. Interesting how the bots distinguish between sig links and live post links i didnt think ther read the coding but just followed every link without a no follow attribute.

Dont forget that they do get you indexed in MSN.

As far as i know a seperate URL should yield the same results.

I think that the anchor text of sig links does effect the SERPs, or at least in MSN where the blog is ranked #1 for business nerd (the anchor text for all links to blog here at DP) However the keywords being in URL are most likely the main reason for this.

Thanks, i was starting to be embaressed lol

What a load of bull. Perhaps your experiment has shown that subdomains are treated with suspicion.

I've had sites indexed and ranking in Google within 24 hours after placing it in my signature only.

I suggest you try the experiment again on a new domain and hosting, no subdomains etc.

Some strong words there, at least ur passionate! :D

I dont see why being a subdomain would matter. The principle should work the same for indexing any page of any site. But ur right we cant be sure.

I think the forum signatures are tagged as nofollow because if it was not like that then people would have been posting any c_ _ p to increase the chances of getting their links crawled by the SE's and that wouldn't have been a good idea.

Yes some forums are tagged as no follow, digital point threads are not. If digital point threads were no follow, they wouldn't show as backlinks!

Well you can easily check if DP is adding nofollow by looking at the source. DP doesn't add nofollow tag to signature links....

People experienced in SEO know sig links have very little or no effect in google.

Sorry but that is not quite correct.

They have little or no effect for highly competetive search phrases, further down the scale they can and do have a use.

I cannot agree. They do matter because they bring you some forum readers. If the readers find you website interesting they will link to you and here is the importance of signature links.
