The SEO game, is it dying?

    What next?

I dont know if you noticed Google’s new promote button, that shows up next to links in search results, whereby you can send a site to the top of your search results, just by hitting “promote”

It is suppose to be a personal button, but what will it develop into?

Can you see this being the end of SEO?

It's just a personal thing and will stay that way, the abuse potential is way too high.

The game may change, but it won't end.

The "game" will always be there. Its being clever and doing things to stay ahead of the game that will get your site above the competition.

SEO isn't going anywhere, that is for sure. Google is toying with many things that provide more customized and local results for individual users, particularly ones with Google accounts. But SEO is still vastly important.

At first glance it feels like a "game", like any other sport you first learn about. Everything is new, complicated, and you feel you have to do certain things to get around the "rules", but once you truly understand the game you understand to be good doesn't take tricks necessarily but sound fundamentals, aka Tim Duncan. Proper tags and link structure of a site isn't really a game, as it has evolved into sound business practice.

Google will not end SEO, because then the would end their company. If SEO ended then PPC would be damaged and Google would not let that happen because they make billions annually off this process.

SEO will be around for awhile. It should be a very important part of your marketing strategy.

The SEO game won't die, at least not for a while.

As long as their are websites being created and marketing is still goin on, webmasters are always going to have to figure out ways to stay ahead of one another to increase profits.

This is just Google's attempt to personalise your searches just like you can personalise your browser. As long as there are websites they will always need marketing in some way or anohter :)
