What you have to watch for is giving stuff away randomly. Sometimes it can be considered a lottery, which is regulated like gambling, so you need a license or something.

I've only heard that once, but to be on the safe side, you may want to have the contest based on post count or referrals or "most informative poster" or something like that.

I think the "many thousands of dollars" thing mentioned earlier deals with taxes. Like if you win something real expensive, you have to pay tax on it. (just like lottery and casino winnings)

Thanks for the answer. It seems that it will help a lot.

But it looked a little comlex to me :). Are you using all features of it? Do you know any alternatives?

If 100% of the revenue is shared how will you make money, pay

    for server costs etc. ?

    :)

Setting it up can be somewhat complex. Join the Profit Geek forums (http://forums.profitgeek.com) and send a PM to Mystickcal, I believe he set up everything on vbPlaza and he'll help you out.

For starters, not everybody will enter their ID in. Money is made in other ways, like AdSense on the rest of the site, in the blog, money from the directory, affiliate ads, etc.

Plus Profit Geek isn't too worried about losing some money on AdSense, we're all out there to just help webmasters make more money. So as long as costs can be paid for, it's all good.

Yep, the trick is at the end of each article to make sure you don't forget the [/subliminal message] tag :p.

But how can it be both a good and bad example?

I was under the impression that refferal links were allowed at DP.

The example is the wording for the link, not the forum itself.

I wonder why I got an infraction for one then.
