Isn't spelling correctly the whole point of a spelling competition?

I feel bad, but like any competition there are winners and losers. Don't you think all the other competitors also worked hard and prepared for the competition?

    4) Bragging rights

    5) Make your friends look stupid

    6) Your a geek with no friends

    7) because of )2 and 3), and his parents use 1) to bait you (Anything think being a spellingbee is cool?). And all those time used to spelling word that no one use in real life make 6). And if the kid do it for 4) and 5), then i have nothing to say...

First, it is not the same word over and over. It is different words each time, so one must prepare for all words.

Second, the situation is the same as a runner who runs 100 meter over and over, or swimmer, or any athlete for that matter. Usually it is the thrill of competition that drive people to compete.
