As with most people, I find that I have considerably more BL's in Yahoo and MSN than I do in Google. However, my serp is much better (for same keywords) in Google than the others. Why is this?
google is just harder to reach, more filters as for both you on-page optimization and the quality of your backlinks. I think yahoo & msn are much more open to fast ranking than google is.
Yahoo and MSN shows almost but not all of your backlinks. Google shows a limited and randomized backlinks your site has...they behave such way simply because they have different features and algorithms regarding such issue(this is solely base on my opinion)...
Thanks guys. I've always wondered why I have thousands of BL's in Yahoo & msn but only 20 or so in Google yet my ranking is much better in Google. Just different animals I guess...
Backlinks are the lifeline for your serp traffic. I think it depends on the SE algorithm how they treat backlinks. On Google if you use link:www.webcosmo.com you would not see all your links, you will see a partial list. Yahoo shows you all.
Google only considered relevant back links that's why the amount of links are so low. while Google is the best search engine which provide exact result for the search query. If your website promotion is too good than Google will always rank better you.
As per Google guidelines it shows only a part of the total back links to your site. Approximately, this way you can check the number of quality links to your site. The ration tend to increase with quality backlinks.
You must be getting that 20 Google number from the link: command. To get the much larger number of links that Google has for you, open a free account in Google Webmaster Tools, then go to the Links button, and you'll see a much larger number of links that Google has for you. In my case Google shows about 10,000, which is half what Yahoo shows.
I show the same amount of links using link: comand or Google Webmaster Tools. 1000+ in Yahoo or MSN, 36 in Google. A bag full of links with a few high pr thrown in and you're on top. Site quality, subject relevancy or content have little to do with placement in a Google srarch. With that, how accurate are the results of a search?
