The right amount of search traffic

What's the best about of search traffic that I should be receiving out of all the traffic that I get to my blog? I'm currently getting 40% of my visitors from search engine traffic but I'm wondering how much could be too much and should I try to get to 50% and the other 50% should be referrals and direct traffic? I don't want to be solely dependable on search traffic but I'm not complaining

    Thanks for your advice.

I don't think there is necesserily a good or bad amount traffic to come from search engines. It's completely up to you as to where you want to be getting traffic from.

It would be better if you get more than 50% up traffic coming from search engines.

One word of caution though - if you have most of your traffic from Google and suddenly lose your SERPs (like I just did) then your traffic plummets. Never put all your eggs in one basket :)

I spend my time trying to get referral traffic to my sites. Then what happens is that the search engine traffic goes up. ;) My experience is that I always end up with about 85 to 90% of the traffic coming from the search engines.

If you increase the part of SE traffic you don't lose other 'not SE' traffic. Make more articles with low-frequency keys. Use tag <strong> ONLY for you keys!

I wouldn't worry too much where the traffic is coming from, just submit optimized high relevant interesting articles/content to your website/blog and post any interesting content to the social bookmarking sites.

There is no such thing as too much search traffic ;) I typically get 80-90% of total traffic from the search engines.

I believe it doesn't matter that much where you are getting your traffic from as long as you have enough... There' s certainly that "eggs in the basket" aspect to that, so that's only great that you are focusing on a number of sources.

It depends on the type of site and overall marketing strategy. If there is an external marketing strategy in operation, then it would be unlikely that you're going to completely rely upon the search engines - there will be a fair bit of traffic coming direct.

I've got sites which vary in their traffic sources - some are around 50%, whilst some are close to 80-90%.

For me, almost 90 per cent of traffic is from search. I guess it's all right to get 40 or 50. But SE traffic is always best.

As much traffic that you can get from Google, better for your site.
