The Reason AdSense is over-rated

    Ok, I know Google AdSense is by far the biggest, baddest ad network in the buisness, but in my opinion there is one major flaw with their programme - Because they drop cookies on everyones computers and then monitor the sites they are visiting it means people get served the same ads time after time after time.

    Today, I've visited 20 differant websites that use AdSense and I've seen 3, yes thats 3, differant ads out of those 20 websites.

    1. By far the most frequent is a banner for solar panels (I visit a lot of weather websites)

    2. SKY TV. (I signed up for Sky TV in March)

    3. Brightroll. (Video advertiser whose website I visted in April)

    And thats it. Thats all I've seen in terms of ads on these websites all day. The same ads as yesterday. The same ads as tomorrow.

    Now, not only is it annoying to keep seeing the same ad on site after site after site after site, I have no desire to click on any of these ads and if I did want to click on one of these ads I'd only do it on one website. Why would I want to click on the same ad on site after site after site?

    Moreover, if a visitor keeps seeing the same ad on every site they visit its either going to be;

    1. Highly annoying

    2. They'll get so used to seeing the same thing that they stop taking any notice.

    Google AdSense is great for Google (it allows them to continue their strange mission to find out everything about everybody) and its great for advertisers who get to ram their brands down people's throats on site after site after site) But what do Publishers really get out of it? I'm not so sure....

    I think Google would change something if this was a problem. Although I have noticed at times the same adds repeatedly, it's never been annoying to me.

    From a publisher's point of view, you do not want the same ads shown to your visitors.. simple as that

    Yes but perhaps those ads are paying by CPM, so it's fine if users don't click them often.
    I don't know.

    Really you only have two gripes not three. The second one regarding Sky TV can not be anybodies fault, adsense do not have access to Sky's customer database or any other advertiser's using adwords, therefore I can not see any way that adsense can filter ads for existing customers.

    Do you know for a fact that seeing the same ad over and over is bad? Without the statistics who can say? If the product or service is only of limited interest it may take a while before some one decides to click on it. I am pretty sure Google knows what they are doing.
