The real value of articles

    Hey,

Sorry to bore everybody again with another article query but i would just like to know the true value of submitting articles in relation to time consumed.

I have a couple of caterig and event management sites that i would like to promote/develop backlinks for and the sites that i have been submitting to seem to not pass on PR. Will the page that the article is displayed on slowly increase in value?

And what other sources excluding article directories do you recommend i submit my articles to?

    Thanks :p

    The site is :
    http://www.contentrelay.com/

I suppose that if you have a site then you prefer that a good article will be in your site and not in other ... :-o

In my experience, I've had the best results when one of my articles gets picked up by another content site. That's where you get the permanent links that will improve their PR over time.

You usually get a bunch of temporary links when the article site first distributes your articles, but then most of them disappear pretty quickly after your article is no longer "current news". The article directories usually will keep your article in their database permanently, but your listing drops to the back pages as new articles are submitted.

writing your original articles is considered as one of the most important method to promote websites. as for time issue, you can use some software to submit to hundreds of site/lists automatically.

check my signature for the software. :)

Articles with your links are probably going to become even more important in the future. Submiting your articles and then having them republished can generate a lot of links in a very short time. Nothing better than having an article reprinted 500 times. Check out the post with a list of sites to submit to.

Can anyone tell me - by submitting to 100's of sites, with the same article - does this not earn the dreaded duplicate content penalty?

    Thanks,

    Paul

No it won't get you penalised but the sites that contain it may get penalised if they have a lot of the same content, with similar content. In short, its not something article writers need really worry about, but it is something for article sites to think about.

As for the time issue, you can always pay someone to write the article for you (I myself am a content developer) and you only need to submit to a few select article sites for your article to be picked up by load of sites.
Try submitting to www.WebDesignArticles.info - that's a good one and incidentally owned by me ;)

Now, the other question - being an early website, if one were picked up by, say, 500 sites, within a short span of time - wouldn't this send you to google hell, for smelling like link farming?

by early web site do you mean young? If so, then I think the sandbox (come on guys it really does exist! honest!) would be your main concern. Getting out of that involves link buildig, with good anchor text, so contrary to your conclusion, article submission would help a young site just as much as an older site.
Sorry if i misunderstood your question.

The website where the article was first found should not be sufferring duplicate content penalty .
Most of the articles are generally picked by Blog owners for their blogs who do not have enough time to research and put up an article . They instead search for their keywords in an article site and post your article on their blog.
And anyway if a young site article is picked 500 times then should be "worth".

Your company can use their newsletter which contains company awards etc. as an article provided others are willing to reprint it .
A better option would be discussing your "market" in the article followed by your awards.

jkomp - yep, I mean a young site (a few weeks old). What I also mean is that the hundreds of backlinks that would be embedded in the article, presuming it gets picked up - that flood of links within a short time would do more harm than good, would it not?

Let's say you are discussing google here .
They have many crieteria's on judging back links .Especially "paid links".
A sudden increase reflects that the site has bought links to boost SE ranks. But then it has to be made sure if it is actually a paid link .For a moment let's say it is not a paid link .

If there is an increase of links then this website must have something of quality otherwise people won't link to it or in your case won't pick the article.
By keeping a quality unique site out of SERPS they are harming themselves and they know it .

So for example if I pick an article of yours and post it on my website then my other pages are not linking to you .Although if you "buy" a link from me it is very possible that you appear on many pages ."AND" even the home page . It is also a possibility that the surrounding text is also an ad ,( as most people place ads collectively) which is also present on multiple pages, reflecting a paid link .
This is where you will suffer the "sudden increase penalty".

Let's say I pick 40 articles of yours and now my 40 pages are linking to you. But the text in all is different with the resource box also different and link text also.
How is that a paid link ?

I sincerely think that the person who started the myth / concept / assumption ( there's not even a word to describe it) that "article links" will be counted as penalty woke up at midnight after a very horrifying dream.

    For the duplicate content :
Most people will be linking to your site through that article ( In your case 500) . This reflects that you are an authority on that subject . Would you give a penalty card to an authority ?

    Regards

Totally agree, Google aint stupid, they know all about article syndications and will see the boost in links for what it is - a positive sign of the value of your site.
    Hope this helps.

Google in general values unique content. Therefore, if you submit your article to sites, it's value is depreciated but you get a lot of backlinks... But since article sites give links to submitted articles, you only get a very small percentage for the PR distribution.
