I often watch CNN and Fox News, every now and then there is cause for laughter over how some words are pronounced. Here's one from today: Bali is pronounced: Barley not pronounced: Baly Anyone else got some funny examples or an explanation? People from New Zealand are even funnier.... they pronounce 'six' as 'sex' and 'fish and chips' as 'fush and chups' for example.
I've got some funny examples of words and phrases Aussies have problems saying: 'Cricket', 'Ashes', 'England - the best cricket team in the world', 'Maiden over', 'Freddie Flintoff'
I just wish they would teach English in the schools over in England and Australia. What is it they speak over there anyways? I can't seem to understand what they say: ello my name is enry I am ear to elp you. What does that mean, so much for customer service if the guy doesn't speak english....
No offence to you Americans but your accent sucks! You only sound good in movies, other than that no way hose. The chinese accent is the best "Wah can ah get yah?" Anyone else agree Americans only sound good is movies? I know, I know, offended the majority of the audience with this one havn't I? And Dominic, she is?!
As far as I know most Europeans (mainly from the UK and surrounding area) think the majority of the US people have what we would call a "southern accent" I can definitely see how they would think that but I don't really notice myself.
well i think its because they are regreeting to pronounce the "r" form the words...too slang and because of their accent is kinda thick.
I have an australian friend before and at first I find his pronounciation funny. Especially hn pronouncing the weekdays.
I lived for about 12 months in Oz, I've yet to find a phrase they don't have trouble with I think the problem with the queens english is that it is the queens, and all others seems to be afraid to use it
Hehe now that's true.. most dialects in England do butcher the fuck out of the way we pronounce words.. well, especially where I live... Hull: http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/realmedia/voices2005/gemma_barker.ram http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/realmedia/voices2005/chris_deanes.ram Pete
The American's have slaughtered the beautiful language that once was...English. They have not only changed the pronunciation, but have gone one better and changed the spelling aswell. Cor Blimey!
