This is one of the biggest and the most complicated discussion I have ever seen. Thanks for such a nice stuff.
Pretty much any ad network will accept proxy homepage, proxy blogs and proxy lists ads, as long as they conform to their ToS but nothing comes close to Adsense for income so google wins that one by a long way. Proxified pages are harder though, Adversal is one of the few that accepts them now if your traffic is over 50% US/CA/UK/AU/EU, (use maxmind's GeoIP) and you have to give them a site for approval. If you have over 20,000 hits daily then XTENDMedia can be used but they prefer English speaking countries as well.
Have you used popads? I added them just for testing purposes a month back on one of my proxy's proxified page and today I checked I have crossed the minimum threshold of 5$. Just requested payment from them. Now I am planning to add their code on all my proxies. To me anything coming from proxified pages is extra income. Main income will always be adsense from home page.
I haven't tried popads yet, I signed up with Adversal because they are established and used by many plus they're going to do banner ads soon (I hope, it's on their site). They pay 'net 35' and I've got $34 for just over 6k uniques/just under 60k hits (for comparison), about a tenth of Adsense but it's still better than AdBrite used to be so I'm not complaining. Proxy season will be all but over in a few weeks anyway so I may make some changes to a lot of things in the summer break. Or I may get out more and enjoy some fresh air and exercise
UncleP, I don't understand why people say proxy season goes dead in summer? Proxies also get traffic from offices and other users browsing from home not just school kids so doesn't make sense to me. People from arab countries never go on vacation. They are always there looking for porn and they need proxies. So although I don't understand this completely but still perhaps I am not that experienced in proxies yet. What happened to your proxies last summer? Were they getting any traffic???
Of course people still need proxies during the summer months but the revenue from those users is less. The 'proxy season' for me is advertising income, that's why I do this. The p*rn surfers don't pay, especially middle eastern countries, they just use bandwidth and give nothing back so I block most of them, I redirect the (what to me is) useless traffic. No offense to people of those countries, it just doesn't pay, simple as. Most of my traffic is school and college/uni traffic (so my stats tell me) with some office users, but the summer months are vacation time for many so visitors and income drops. In my experience not allowing certain countries actually produces more income than allowing them, strange as that may be. Up until I blocked the so called 'bad' countries I made no money from proxies, after I blocked them my income rose quite considerably and I don't plan to unblock them anytime soon. By allowing these low paying visitors it reduces the value of ALL traffic (smart pricing), and also increases my resource needs, so I'm worse off overall, it's an economic thing to me, I'm not a charity The simple fact is that school kids and students pay the best with advertisers and I use less resources too, so I make more and pay out less, that works for me.
So I take it no one wants to share any advice on proxy promotion? I've tried paid advertising from some DP members and have seen almost zero traffic. Adsense earnings are now less than hosting prices... Not sustainable. Help!!!
Block all but western traffic, that's what did it for me. You'd be surprised what a difference that makes. Or use freeproxyhosting (.net).
Why would you want to block all western traffic? China, Iran and other east Europe countries could suck up your monthly bandwidth and get you low ppc. But blocking western traffic? Hmm..
You don't understand what UncleP said. He said "Block all BUT western traffic" which means just allow visitors from western countries and block all others. Do you understand now?
So would this be the list of countries you allow UK,usa, canada,France,Italy,Spain,Germany, and a few other European countries and Australia is this it
submit proxy to all topsites send in proxy groups social bookmark yahoo answers block bad traffic iran, china , etc buy advertisement above formula always work u can do more promotiion like buy featured links , promote in forums, etc
Yes, thank you newbie191, that's exactly what I meant Yes for me pretty much, not forgetting Ireland and New Zealand of course plus Benelux and Scandinavian countries are usually safe enough as well.
