Yes, I told you, it's blocked.

    Doesn't make a difference mate.

Uhh, it's not allowed anymore I think.

Perhaps it is because I'm using an old IP which once used on proxies.

anyone has experienced hosting with TMZhosting? I would like to hear some real comments. I'm referring to their proxy hosting package.

Some good info there although I already assumed as much. Still good for other proxie newbies though.

I am new to proxies and thanks to the infomation in this thread I have picked out a couple of good domains and am trying various methods of driveing traffic to the proxies. Thank you all for the handy info.

What does it say, does it says "This is blocked", Or doesn't connect at all? If it shows a blocked paged, I would bet there is man in middle attack on your network. So your SSL is so secure as you might of thought.

No big problems so far. Very good deals - lots of bandwidth and addon domains even in lower packages.

They were even nice enough to unsuspend me so I could change a proxy that violated their TOS and earned me a suspension. [CGI proxy] My previous hosts would have suspended me and that would be that.

Come join us in 2008 ;) Anyway maybe the cpu will not be an issue,
but if you are trying to sell some spare space post up some logs of server load, someday people will catch on that there is more to hosting, "proxy hosting", servers, computers in general infact than generic size figures which mean very little

How is the proxy business going? I used to own a couple of proxies and, with some work, they produced some decent adsense money. Is it worth to try to start a proxy network nowadays?

I have seen people talk about blocking traffic from certain countries using .htaccess, and I'm currently doing this. However, instead of blocking that traffic altogether, can I redirect it to another page? That would be awesome, please let me know if any of you have done this before or know how to do it. Thanks!

You can easily do this using mod_geoip by maxmind.
Ask your host to install it for you.

All you need to do is to insert this code into your htaccess file.

    GeoIPEnable On
    GeoIPDBFile /path/to/GeoIP.dat

    # Redirect one country
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{ENV:GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE} ^CA$
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.wikipedia.com$1 [L]

    PHP:
    OR

    GeoIPEnable On
    GeoIPDBFile /path/to/GeoIP.dat

    # Redirect multiple countries to a single page
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{ENV:GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE} ^(IR|CN|RU)$
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.disneyland.com$1 [L]
