I'll just like to clear this up a bit,
Theres no need for facts when "webmasters" buys .info for $2

I remember looking in the B/S/T section every once in a while and i'm seeing people selling ebooks on "making money with proxies", then somewhere in those ebooks talks about flipping them for more cash.

By buying .info cheap and flipping them before the date of the domain re-registration is smart business.

    Do you still require facts?

Its nice to have a .com, .org and also a .net for proxy sites but believe it or not, the users always remember the name of the sites, even if they forgot how to spell it they will use the friendly Google and look for it.

Now, i shall return back into my corner and watch the young up comers :)

That applies to webmasters and not proxy users. I still dont see how a user would opt to enter .info before .com

So by what he is saying you create a new proxy we will call it widget-proxy.com. You do mass emailing promote on facebook, orkut, myspace, yahoo and google groups. Then the the user goes to the locations school or work whatever and then goes to use your proxy but inputs widget-proxy.info instead of widget-proxy.com I dont see anything that would support this way of thinking.

Then again what do I know all my .coms perform fine

I notice SUB they even know the name but still use Google. I see referrers all the time for Search: example.com" then they come to my site even though they could just type in the url bar. they use Google instead for some reason.
I think I read a article explaining why people do that. Its becuase they think the search engine is the only way to get the site, or they don't know how to use a browser.

That explains why I kept getting traffic from google like this "pandasurf.info" before I sold that one.

    Hi,

    Theres a website called www.wikipedia.org

Have you ever heard of it before?

Its a informational type of site, its where people can update facts about what they know and facts about there country, its a very nice site.

It has been branded "www.wikipedia.org" for {{marketing purposes}}.

Have you ever heard anyone ever called it wikipedia.com?

If you type in wikipedia.com right now, you will notice it has been redirected to www.wikipedia.org because its "Branded" as www.wikipedia.org.

When someone makes a product, and and promotes it, the user/consumer will remember it by its "Brand"

Do you wish me to explain more?

    If you wish...

After promoting a website such as "Proxy.org"
I completely doubt it, that you may even think of typing in "proxy.com" to find a list of proxies.

Actually, i never check that site before, i'll check it now.

Sometimes, for those sites with heavier weight, if you just put the name regardless of their extension, google will start looking for a matching site that has bigger weight from the others and load that one first.

So, basically if your dot info site is famous, even if the user typed in "dumb" (assuming they are looking to go to dumb.info), google will just forward them to dumb.info.

For an example: type in "proxy" in your browser bar. Just "proxy" with no extension. You will see that google will brings up "proxy.org".

I would say that 75% of proxies are .info and that is why proxy users are more opt to type .info. That is all they see when it comes to proxies. I promote and own enough of them.

    Almost miss this one,

Yes all the .com's perform fine. I believe the .com's are running 20 pounds of boost while the .info's are still using cold air intake filters.

But i guess its a matter of getting from point A to point B

I wonder if NameServers works like this?

There are more proxies that are .info's because they are cheaper domain extentions. The .com's perform better then .info's.

Sub what does branding have to do with it? If you market the site widget-proxy.com why would someone just randomly enter .info when they clearly read .com? The promotion was for a .com not .info

When wikipedia did there promoting they didnt promote .com and people decided to go to .org so the example does not apply. To say they would not input the promoted address and try a different one still doesnt add up. No matter how many sites have .info. Suppose what I will do is go buy a .com and .info and promote the .com and see how many people cant read .com and input .info instead

    even with this example
Proves what? That they will go forward through the TLD's before they would go backwards.

Guys sorry to put an offtopic post but I have cleaned http://mwolk.com/ again and have removed all the premium listings which had expired (somehow they didn't autoexpired) so now there are less sites which means more exposure for new entrants.

I am still offering 2 months listing for only $9.95 though I am increasing it to $14.95 in few days time.

If anyone one of you want it, just fill the form for premium listing here.

    Cheers

Hey guys, just want to ask for a little review.
As some of you might now, I own xytheme.com. It has been a great time running that site. I manage to get into 500k alexa and the site got visitors everyday.

A few weeks ago I installed woopra on the site. Woopra is the next "Google analytic" which gives you live stats over your site. So, I sit in front of my computer and look at my visitor. I saw some of the keywords are about looking for a web template, looking for proxies.

So, I have decided to also write about something web related but still focused on proxies.

And just a few minutes ago, I installed proxy listing script by nastynappy. Done some customization and manage to make it a little closer to the main site.

So, could you please write a review of what you think about the new listing site?
Oh, feel free to submit your proxies too! :)

    http://www.xytheme.com --> The main site
    http://www.xytheme.com/proxy-sites/ --> The proxy listing

    Thanks.

You've posted this in the page 483
This entire quote above was the main subject of the discussion.

I have no idea why someone would do that.
If i had a list of google & yahoo groups
i wouldn't even think of changing their extensions
    would you?

To assure the user of its quality and may be a well known product/service?
Even the destination of the site perhaps?

    Ok

Branding would ensure that users would know and follow the right web address and you wouldn't have to come asking:

Please take your time and do your study and inform us with the results.

    Thanks

the theme looks good, but the Home, Downloads etc tabs are not instantly noticeable, you could darken the colour of the tabs a bit so that they become noticeable
