I hate popups but if its only a full page ads like what adbrite's offered, it would not be a problem at all.

 

Well, if it has not been proven, there might not be so many popup blockers around and popup servers might not be trying hard to circumvent this. Both IE and FF have built-in popup blockers now.

As webmasters, I do not reckon we hate popups. We would love anything that might earn us a few bucks. But what matters most to us is our user's web experience because we want them keep returning to us. Common internet users do not like unwanted automatically popping up popups, and even if it is a popunder they can hardly fail to notice it because of that funny clicking noise in IE.

I would also remind everyone that there are many viruses and adware programs that keep showing popups. If a user sees too many popups on our sites he may think his computer has been infected (because of our sites? Oh no). Popups have a very bad reputation.

 

I plan to use only popunders which is a better option than just popups.

Yes, exactly.

 

Mine goes from about 500 visitors to 150 on weekends.

 

I would add Turkey to that list.

 

And Germany. I had 400 uniques per day from a german site...just wasted bandwidth.

proxies are a horrible niche IMO, get into something thats going to actually convert!
