The only disadvantage is the resource usage. Otherwise, its more compatible with websites, runs faster, uses less bandwidth, easier to enhance/mod (if you know perl). That's what comes to mind instantly, there are more.

Addition to thewird's httpd.conf values,

Make sure you dont have the MaxClients greater than your Server Hard Limit.
It may cause problems at times even though it'll run fine for few days or even weeks!.

what are you planning to do?
as in watch videos, access sites or for games/online webbased games?

if not for games, and if it is personal use SOLELY for you, you may be able to deal with just a vps with of course 256 or 512 MB ram.

if for games, you may have to look for high vps specs or lowest dedi.

also depends on what script you may need to run for your personal use with needs. (so what other's discussed on phpproxy and cgiproxy may still apply but in smaller resources sense)

 

I dont know the URL or their reputation but you can check out
"webhosting" category...

there are nick, ray9 and someone else offering free proxy hosting ..
(1 or 2 of them do not req ads)

 

On the apaches that have the low limit (256 usually) I usually set ServerLimit = MaxClients

Thanks for the reply..i tried uploading a zelune script,but guess i did something wrong?

shows files,but if you click the zelune folder,it goes to proxy

 

install only the content from the zelune folder ...

 

+1, you only need to upload the files, not the folder called zelune lol.

i like zelune as well.
If you want better script, paid one called proxono is really nice. MORE functions.

Whatever you do, do not get any PHP proxy scripts that are encoded by Ioncube. They use a ton more CPU, even more then an unoptimized CGI proxy.

i'm testing one out (proxono) a month back and still.
its extremely hard to optimize server for it so far...

 

they will have the "ioncube" folder in it for you to upload along side with other files (at most cases and most I've seen with other ioncube using sites)

 

If you were looking for a proxy template, what things would you look for? What things are good? (like spots for your network and things like that)

 

yes for proxy templates, for me I would look for

-proxy network space on left menu
-160x600 ad under network
- on center, main proxy and few ads + top sites or few links
-right - prob more links/ads

also I would make "network space" and "links space" being called as "include" attri in php
so you can easily edit one file and get updated in all.
