I would recommend distributing templates in the same way that I do on my site. A theme consists of a single folder. The "complex" installation procedure consists merely of uploading this folder into the /themes/ folder of the script. The theme is then installed and can be selected through the user-friendly setup interface or manually by changing the value of siteSKIN in the settings file. As lanmonkey pointed out, it's extremely rare for templates to include the script as well and when it is required, it's always the result of a poorly structured script. I'm all for making it easy to use and easy to setup but I don't intend to cater for those people who would find uploading a single folder too complicated.
well, in your opinion, it might not be good priactice but its certainly common practice, especially amongst the big scripts like joomla, pbpbb, smf, vbulletin, invision, etc... as already mentioned. lets say you have 20 glype templates on your website each in a zip file with the glype script included. Do you really want to have to update 20 zip files every time a new glype update is released? updates are released every few weeks now. It works in your favour dude. You get away with it with phproxy and cgiproxy because there hasnt been any new versions of those scripts released for a year now, and probably wont be in the future. Lets be honest here: If you cant setup a proxy template on your own without having it packaged for you then maybe you need to re-think starting in the proxy business, cas the ebooks and blog posts people create that make it sound easy are not telling you full story........
I agree, when I find a template with script included, I have to extract the folder and just upload the theme to avoid overwriting lots of custom mods to glype, it's a much better way of distributing themes, otherwise - new version of glype = update all the template zip files, funtimes. I spose it's ok with phproxy considering it's not going to get updated.
yeah, it seems that everyone is using Glype. Can you tell me whether this script is really worth to try for. My most of the users (80%) use Myspace, if Glype is working with Myspace (fully functional) then I would be really interested in glype please suggest me what to do
I had never heard of glype till i started reading this thread, and I sold my proxies for $1000 on here a few months back. Just getting back into the business so need to catch up haha
The Prog signed up the ads are UP on my websites but the stats and the revenue ... just a word to explain this new ppc engine: awful the stats are not updating So i lost another 8000 hits ,testing this LL
