And don’t start with high traffic/high search volume short keywords because the competition is fierce for them and you will have no chance getting your blog listed in not just the first page, but it won’t get listed in even the top 30-40 pages of google search results. I like to do things the other way around, optimise for the short two or three word phrases and do all the usual link building stuff for those. As you add more relevant content and/or submit more and articles the longtail’s look after themselves
Hmm well if your keyword is 'weight loss' you'll never get to page 1 anytime soon. So you use keywords like 'quick weight lost' or 'new weight loss' and eventually you'll rank for just weight loss.
Long tailed keywords will have much less competition therefore it will be easy for you to rank for them quickly. Short tailed keywords have much larger competition therefore you would have to do more work in order to rank for them.
