What happens is this Mel, the porn operators take popular keywords and put them in as keywords on their pages and use our domain name also as a keyword, then when someone searches on those keywords they come up in the SERP's, so they are getting links in the SERP's to their porn sites by doing this, it is the same way they spam server logs to get webmasters to click on their porno sites. I asked them to remove these porn sites that were using our keywords and coming up in the SERP's this way Mel. Yes they did remove these sites Mel.
SEO is such an ambiguois term. Sometimes SEO experts take it to a level that may infer that they really have control over SE's...anyone who's experience with SEO or purchasing like services should realize that there is no one who actually controls SERPS. They control you. This shown with the silly examples 'crap SEO...'stupid ottawa psychologist'. I am pretty sure either one of you guys promote these key phrases, so why are you coming up #1 , who controls who?
Ok that is a bit clearer, this is not about linking to your site, it is about using your site name and keywords on thier pages and ranking well for them. I am very surpised that Google would remove a site because of the use of a domain name (they sure as hell won't remove a site because they are using the same keywords as you) unless your domain name is copyrighted and you file a DCMA request with them. Is that the case?
In Mel's case, it must be anchor text. He's #1 for "crap" but the text doesn't appear on his page. <edit>Actually, the word "crap" does appear on that page. My apologies. Mel's site does indeed contain crap. Sorry for that error, Mel. </edit> I'm only #5 for that phrase, and in my case it's an old blog page that actually contains the snippet "the message that any parent resorting to such techniques conveys to the teen: 'I don't trust you. I don't believe that you are intelligent enough or responsible enough to refrain from doing something stupid.' " So I'd say in my case it's because of the content of the article. In Mel's case, it just a well-earned reputation
Oh my yes Minstrel I have learned a lot here today, but spelling was not the important lesson (I could care less about being able to spell either ottawa or psychologist off the top of my head) it is about the mentality and morals of supposedly grown men.
They remove them so that the users do not get linked to porno sites from Google Mel. If you were Google would you remove porno sites that use "Mickey Mouse" as keywords? Do you think that Google looks stupid if porno operators can get links back to porno sites that easy by fooling Google Mel
Minstrel your lack of mental ability and morals continues to astound me. How on earth did you ever get a license to practice on live human beings?
I just find this very hard to believe. Porn really has nothing to do with it, plenty of porn sites rank well in google - always have and I suspect they always will, but they rank for terms that bring in business. If Google is removing pages that rank according to thier algo because of thier content then Google is not practicing what they preach. Why would a Porn site want to rank for mickey mouse anyway, they might lure some children in that way but there is no way to make money there.
Well Minstrel if you want to continue this childish display of idiocy please feel free to do so - without me. Seriously Minstrel when a supposed mental health professional stoops this low he should be looking for professional help to get his head straight. This is not spite it is a serious recommendation, how do you suppose the licenseing board would view your posts in this thread?
Do you also wonder why porn operators buy mis-spelled domains that are close in spelling to sites that kids hit millions of times per day too Mel
You can't really be that naive, Mel. Porn sites will take any traffic they can get. That's why they swoop in to grab expired domain names to try to divert the traffic from previously acquired SERPs for the sit.
'The power of Google is scary' What the hell happened. I have to agree with fryman. Today my serps have improved under my main keyphrase and I am now pos #2 out of 64,000,000. My Adsense CPM has skyrocketed and our workflow (b2b products) is a sales record already today...I am very happy . When serps drop I am very sad. Although Yahoo has consistantly shown a much higher conversion rate. It just doesn't come anywhere near the traffic that Google sends me, when they like me . Google maintains that we should not show concern about thier algorithmic changes and keep doing what you are doing. But we all know what it means when you acheive top ten ranking at Google. When I am in the top of my food chain...mortgages PAID, car payments PAID, credit cards PAID. When I am not in the top it is scary.
Yes Anthony I do wonder why they would do that. Can you please explain how that is profitable for them?
Getting back to Google: For anyone who still believes that on-page content means nothing for Google ranking (i.e., those who still maintain it's all about backlinks and anchor text), it seems to me that these (albeit silly) examples are rather clear evidence to the contrary.
I could see that making a profitable porn site, what with the antics of some of the recent inhabitants.
That isn't the point, as you know, Mel. Porn site SEO is based on the premise: "Get them to the site using any means available and, once we have them, the content will keep them". How they get the visitors doesn't matter. It's the same thing that drives all those Viagra emails filling up your inbox, Mel.
