    I know a lot of people work hard to get comments on their blogs. I was just wondering, why are comments so important? Do comments help with SEO?

    Sorry its a bit of a n00b question, but I'd like to know if I should be getting people to comment on my blog!!

    Thanks :)

    Well, comments prove to your visitors that this is a good blog, worth reading and commenting on. Secondly, comments create unique content, which is always good. Finally, it's a good way to communicate with your visitors :)

    comment = free content.

    Also, it is more likely that the visitor will come back to check how other respond to his comment.

    From time to time i rank for word in comment field that bring me extra traffic

    comments are essential from my standpoint. They tell if you if the article was good, bad, too short, too long, boring ect. The worst thing that can happen to a developer is to get hacked. The worst thing that can happen to a writer is to get no feed back at all. Even a you suck at life go kill yourself is better than nothing.

    comments can help you increase your blog traffic. Do have in mind that it's not all about people commenting on your blog. You should post comments as well. That way, by posting comments on other websites you have the possibility to attract visitors from the blog you comment on, of course you should not forget to use your blog's url.

    I'm with the others here - comments are one of the few reliable ways to validate your content. Feedback from readers is how you know if what you're writing is worthwhile or interesting - or at the very least being noticed.

    Good point.
    Happened to me too. It also proves to your readers that you really care about them.
