Pope Benedict XVI’s first visit to America as Pope will not be his introduction to this country, but it will be the first opportunity for Americans to see this Pope up close – three years after his election as pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/...ressed_by_benedicts_convict.html?hpid=topnews Will his visit be helpful? Will he say something controversial? Should he have stayed in Rome? Is it the right time to visit USA? What are your thoughts? ... Comments:- Thanks
His visit is always helpful to the faithful. Everyone's saying something Controversial, so there's no point to it. You want pope to stay forever in rome ? Is there a right time to visit usa ?.
That's great, I think we should sell some souvenirs for this event. Like, t-shirts that say "Pope USA 2008" or something goofy like that.
That's good, or how about, "The Pope - I kissed his pinky ring and all I got was this crappy t-shirt." or "I survived the 2008 USA Pope Tour and all I got was this crappy t-shirt."
Well that certainly made me laugh But the sad reality is that if it were possible He would arguably, make a much better job of it, than the 3 pretty un-inspiring frontrunners
Who is pope? Why is the pope such a central figure to the Christian faith. Is he some sort of latter-day jesus?
I am not Catholic but I live in the DC area where he is currently visiting before going up to New York during this US visit. A couple of impressions. 1. Virtually his first comments to reporters reflected his shame for the atrocities and crimes committed by priests who abused kids. It was amazingly refreshing to hear words of humility coming from a leader. Its virtually never spoken today in this bombastic world. Those types of concerns reinforce a moral perspective that is requisite for a religeous leader. He addressed American Catholic bishops on this topic later in his stay. 2. It is astonishing to see the reverence and deep devotion of many who have come to see him in person. Not being Catholic its strange to me, but it is fascinating to see it occur. Good for all of them. 3. The level of raised security for his visit is extraordinary.
Pope Benedict, celebrating a stadium Mass for 45,000 people, acknowledged on Thursday that the U.S. pedophile priests scandal caused "indescribable pain and harm" to victims but asked Catholics to love their pastors. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080417/us_nm/pope_usa_dc Let's all hope his words are heeded by his pastors
This is a huge problem that is caused by the fact that the church hasnt in the past properly screened their priests and the common people are the ones paying, yes there is a shortage of priests but that is no excuse to let these pedophiles become priests. Im catholic and im on the side of the abused as i know one of them. He recently collected a fat 7 figure paycheck because he was ruined for life as a young child who was you know what. Like i said before, an injustice is an injustice no matter who caused it. I liked his words of humility though and its a good tiny step forward.
I did not see what he said, but of course hope like you that he makes some, in fact a lot of progress in this area
