It's your own option. Nobody ask you to enter certain section.

I tried starting religion and politics forums on my site. They are definately loaded topics of discussion. It was not long before members we asking for certain content to be removed. Anyways, my take is that no one is making you go into those areas. They are there for those who want to use them. Maybe I'll look at politics and religion never, but that does not mean that they should not exist.
