I'm wondering what the actual point of directories like the Alive Web Directory is....

I mean, people don't go to directories to browse, right?

They pass PR, some do traffic, and gives you better link popularity.

Which = more traffic and more money.

I thought PR doesn't get built on unrelated websites?

Well I'm looking to be the #1 result on Google for 'Myspace Layouts'

Is there anyway I can check how well built bigoo.ws is? (I suppose link:bigoo.ws and then checking the PR of each site that it's linked on)

First be realistic. Your not going to be #1 for myspace layouts considering your going against established websites in a saturated market place coming in not even realising that.

Well I'm looking for the best way to market my website www.layoutsandmore.net and I figure getting high on the search engine rankings would be a good start, but it really isn't possible I see.

Sure it is. I made a site in less than a month get to the first page of google for myspace layouts. Then I sold it and it dropped like a rock. But its possible.

First page is fine with me. How much did it cost you to get it to the first page?

How many sites do you have, and what are their PRs?
I figure this conversation would better carry into AOL Instant Messenger. If you have it, please IM me. My screen name is 'Twan'
    Thanks.

its all in the way the directory is marketed
if its marketed only to webmasters to submit their links all of the visitors are going to be webmasters submitting their links

most of the recent phpld/sitesift directories only market to webmasters
