Hmm... so that's why you were accusing me of working for PHPFox when I said good things about them.

Uncanny how similar our threads are. Talk about irony.

I posted this on another thread but if it wasn't for information from all these discussion I'd probably still be looking. After reading up on things on this forum for several weeks I ended up going with phpfox.

I'm new to phpfox and only came aboard with it about 3-4 weeks ago.
Everything has been great and integrated phpbb and coppermine with no issues.

Now to the video section; I'll update everyone soon on that.

Honestly, it's exceed my expectations and I've been a joomla diehard for some time. Btw, i'm on 1.5.1 and looking to upgrade soon.

If anyone has any questions i'll be glad to try and help, because I know how tough of a decision this is.

    thanks,

Try adding an adress book importer .. in the joining steps ( or on " invite friends " ) .

People really need that to become popular .

One of the things I see each and every one of these social networking scripts get hung up on is the instant messaging and chat.

Usually, they end up putting out some silly HTML Refresh chat, or even worse, IRC.

In the mean time, you're overlooking a much more powerful solution which goes unused and is totally free.

    Jabber

XMPP Protocol based instant messaging. Google uses it even now.

What's even better--that it is free.

My suggestion to you would be to pick a version of a Jabber server to support-- Like Ejabberd or Openfire Server--and make it so that your userdatabase works off the Jabber login/passwords.

This way, you don't have to waste time developing a chat application, or an instant messaging application. People can implement a wide variety of clients, encompassing every major operating system. If you want, develop a custom version of the jabber client that will do things like link to their profiles and such.

It's such a waste of time to keep re-inventing the wheel, and your options are far less powerful than a jabber solution.

The great job has to be done.
The future of social networking should be easy, fully customizable with simple code templates.
So with these features it can become easy for everyone to use it.

I have some experience with Dzoic Handshakes and myspace like profiles are possible there. You can also configure the chat/IM pinging interval to the server via php, or if you want you can even turn if off if you dont want that functionality. It runs fine on a larger network and I have been happy so far.

A perfect social network for me would be a mix between devaintart(for the layouts), and lifestream.fm where you get all the other services to post it at their actual profile site.

For more of a revision, have a profile section like devaintart, instead of having just art only, have feeds from many different sites.

    That will make my day.

This post is really freakin' old. I'm guessing it's yet another dead project, anyway.
