I wonder if the perfect directory would be one where the users would rate new sites, not a single editor/member of staff/whatever... Something like digg where users would rate sites and after having a certain amount of votes, the site in question would automatically get listed. Most certainly it would require some decent anti-spam techniques... But I think it could work. Like a web 2.0 directory? What do you think?
That would be nice, but an editors approval should be required. Otherwise you would have threads in DP services forum like "get my listed in x directory". It would be manipulated. Having users rate a directory is nice though.
It sounds like a good idea but it should be accompanied with an editorial review to ensure that there is no abuse of the system.
It doesn't work Firstly, All that would happen is that it would become an electioneering event Secondly, the reason for being, for todays directory, is that the editors decide on the sites that get listed.
It wouldn't really be a directory anymore and it would be manipulated easily, anything put in the way to try and stop manipulation could easily be bypassed, without a single editor imagine the type of sites that could get in.
The perfect directory is like the perfect man or woman....always just out of reach. Perfect means different things to different people, especially to owner vs. submitter.
